RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Inflation in December 2021 stood at 0%, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) variation, lower than the 0.6% recorded in the same month last year. With this result, inflation for 2021 amounts to 6.8%, above the 2.2% recorded in 2020.
The stability of consumer prices throughout the month of December 2021 was marked by price increases in a number of foods, durable goods and services in the basket, on the one hand, as well as by price drops such as fuel and home repair items.
In terms of foodstuffs, beef prices increased again, although more moderately than in previous months.
According to sector agents, prices continue to be affected by the upward trend in international prices, coupled with the typical increase in demand for some cuts for the end-of-year holidays, mainly beef and ribs.
Likewise, there have been slight price rises in beef substitutes, such as poultry and processed meats.
