Federal Audit Court concludes voting and approves 5G auction in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Federal Audit Court (TCU) has concluded the approval to auction broadband frequencies for the 5G technology, the minister of communications, Fábio Faria, said on Twitter on Wednesday (25).

“The public bid notice goes to Anatel to be published,” Faria added. In an interview with “Voz do Brasil”, Faria confirmed that the auction will take place in October.

Last week, the TCU had examined the public notice, obtaining a majority that followed the vote of the rapporteur, Raimundo Carreiro, in favor of approval. However, one of the ministers asked to review the process.

The bid auction, considered the biggest in the history of broadband in Brazil, is expected to generate about R$45 billion (US$8.5 billion) and should take the technology to all 27 state capitals by July 2022, according to the government’s expectations.
