Peruvian Government Continues Airport Expansion Projects

-

As mentioned, the Peruvian aviation industry ended this 2021 with some news regarding airport infrastructure: the Peruvian government has already started the procedures and other measures for the airport’s expansion at Cajamarca and Pucallpa.

Now, the 2022 started with more Peruvian airport infrastructure news: the Peruvian government has approved the value of the properties affected by the expropriation to be carried out for the Iquitos airport expansion.

“Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta” International Airport

“Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta” International Airport is located at northeast Iquitos, in the district of San Juan, province of Maynas, department of Loreto.

Iquitos’ airport has one 2,500 meters long by 45 meters wide runway; a single passenger terminal; 5 parking spaces on a platform with 247.50 meters long by 220 meter wide, which is for small narrow body aircraft (Airbus A319, Airbus A320 or Boeing 737).

In the 2020, Aeropuertos del Peru (AdP), the administration company of the “Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta” International Airport in Iquitos, presented to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the technical file for the investment in rehabilitation of the air side and the optimization of the airport’s perimeter fence, whose works will demand an investment of approximately $85 million.

The technical file includes the detailed engineering that will allow the execution of the runway’s rehabilitation works, the taxiways, and the aircraft apron with the corresponding visual aids system: lights and signals.

Likewise, the runway’s grounds, security areas, runway strips and taxiway strips, will be leveled, and an efficient drainage system will be built to be able to adequately evacuate rainwater.

The project also includes the construction of a perimeter fence with its respective perimeter road and lighting along the entire airport’s perimeter.

In the mid-2021, the MTC acquired 90.55% of the properties necessary for the works described above.

In total, 1,485 properties were acquired, leaving 155 for pending acquisition.

At the beginning of this year, the MTC approved the total value of the appraisal and the payment of the improvements found in the affected areas for the expansion works.

With this, the Peruvian government continues to advance the lands expropriation plan that will be used for the airport expansion.
