Chile opening Oct 1: 91% vaccinated, quarantine required

The Chilean Ministry of Health said that, of their target population, 91.25% of the population has been vaccinated with a first dose and 88.46% of the population has been vaccinated with two doses. But, according to Chile Travel, which says that Chile will open on October 1, 2021, quarantine will still apply even if travellers are Chileans who have previously registered for a mobility pass confirming they completed a full vaccination programme plus 14 days have passed since receiving the last dose of the respective vaccine.

Chile Travel also said that vaccines must be those approved by the Chilean Public Health Institute (ISP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Currently these belong to the following pharmaceutical laboratories: - Moderna - Pfizer/BioNTech - Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) - Oxford/AstraZeneca - Sinopharm - Sinovac - CanSino - Generium (Sputnik-V).

According to Chile Travel, until September 30, 2021, only Chileans and Non-Chilean residents may enter Chile. As of October 1, non-resident foreigners will be allowed to enter Chile in compliance with the following requirements:

Entry Requirements for Chilean and non-Chilean residents until September 30, 2021:

  • To have a negative PCR, taken 72 hours before departure, counting from the last boarding on flights with stopovers.
  • Fill out the “Affidavit for Travelers” form online, up to 48 hours before departure, in which you will provide your contact and health information and your travel details. This form will issue a QR code as a means of verification. This form is available at www.c19.cl
  • You must be quarantined for seven days in your home if you have an authorized Mobility Pass or are traveling with minors. Otherwise, you will have to stay in isolation at a hotel. For 14 days after you enter the country, you will receive a follow-up form sent daily to your e-mail. Timely completion is mandatory.

Entry Requirements for foreigners to enter Chile as of October 1, 2021.

  • To have a negative PCR, taken 72 hours before departure, counting from the last boarding on flights with stopovers
  • To have received a complete vaccination program, which you must validate before entering Chile at mevacuno.gob.cl to obtain a mobility pass, which becomes active after the mandatory confinement.
  • Fill out the “Affidavit for Travelers” form online, up to 48 hours before departure, in which you will provide your contact and health information and your travel details. This form will issue a QR code as a means of verification. This form is available at www.c19.cl
  • Anyone entering Chile must remain in mandatory isolation for five days. This compulsory isolation must be carried out at a previously declared home, hotel or residence.
  • To have medical insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 30,000, which covers any expenses caused by Covid-19.
  • For 14 days after you enter the country, you will receive a follow-up form sent daily to your e-mail. Timely completion is mandatory.

Points of entry

Chile Travel said that non-resident foreigners may enter Chile by air through the airports in Santiago, Iquique and Antofagasta. Chileans or Non-Chilean residents, as well as those who meet any of the criteria of Decree 102 of the Ministry of the Interior may also enter Chile through any open border crossing point.

According to Chile Travel, the use of a face mask is mandatory in urban or populated areas, public roads, paid public or private transportation, elevators, enclosed areas, and common areas.

Hygiene, cleaning, and disinfecting

Chile Travel reminds travellers to regularly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. All establishments should have hand sanitizer gel and hygiene, cleaning, and disinfecting protocols available.

Public information

Lastly, Chile Travel reminds travellers to observe signage instructions stating capacity and health regulations posted in enclosed areas inside each establishment.

Departure measures

For those who wish to travel outside Chile, Chile Travel says that Chileans and Non-Chilean residents over 18 who have an authorized Mobility Pass or a special permit to leave the country (available at the online police station https://www.comisariavirtual.cl/) may travel internationally.
