BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Starting from the 1st of Ramadhan until 30th of Syawal 1442 Hijrah, maximum prices have been set for 5 categories of selected essential daily food items. The approach was first taken by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, JPES, Ministry of Finance and Economy last year following the effect of COVID-19 on the supply and prices of several types of basic food items in the market. The measure is also a JPES initiative to maintain reasonable prices of selected food which are frequently used in food preparation during Ramadhan and upcoming Syawal.
The selected items include butter, margarine, ghee, condensed, evaporated and cream milk and flour. The products are in addition to cooking oil and powdered infant milk which are set a maximum price throughout the year as well as chicken and chicken eggs whose maximum prices have been set starting from the 1st of April 2021 until the end of Syawal 1442 Hijrah. The seasonal prices are implemented for 8 weeks compared to 5 weeks in previous years.
The list of maximum prices is available on the PenggunaBijak mobile app and the JPES website. The seasonal maximum price is to prevent market price of the selected items from rising above a certain level.
Consumers are encouraged to exercise their right by comparing shop prices and similar brands in the market to obtain the best value before making any purchase.
Queries related to the seasonal maximum prices can be directed to the Department of Competition and Consumer Affairs, DCCA through the Consumer Hotline at Talian Darussalam 123 or the DCCA's mobile application PenggunaBijak.
