SÃO PAULO--Brazil's trade surplus narrowed in May from the previous month as exports declined and imports increased, the economy ministry said Monday.

The country recorded a surplus of $4.5 billion in May, after a surplus of $6.7 billion in April. Brazilian exports fell to $17.9 billion last month, from $18.3 billion in May, while imports increased to $13.4 billion from $11.6 billion in the same period.
