The Executive Branch has extended the declaration of emergency in the agricultural and irrigation sector for 167 calendar days.

This measure aims to prevent the situation of vulnerability of small-scale agricultural producers from worsening in the 2022-2023 agricultural season.

Additionally, the declaration of emergency has been extended due to food security issues faced by the Peruvian population.

According to Supreme Decree No. 012-2022, published on Sunday in the Official Gazette El Peruano, the extension will run from July 18, 2022.

The Government said that the price of fertilizers, which are mostly imported, continue to rise, and this significantly affects agricultural producers.

Likewise, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has accentuated the increase in prices of major commodities such as oil, wheat, corn, and soybean oil.

The extension was approved within the framework of Supreme Decree No. 164-2021-PCM, which establishes the Government's General Policy for 2021-2026 period, and Supreme Decree No. 022-2021-Midagri, which stipulates the guidelines of the Second Agrarian Reform.

The Executive Branch declared the agricultural sector in emergency for 120 days for the first time in March this year through Supreme Decree No. 003-2022-Midagri.
