Argentina: Unionized farmers to demonstrate nationwide July 13 to denounce fuel and fertilizer shortages

Unionized farmers plan protests across Argentina July 13. Heightened security, localized transport and business disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized farmers, including members of the Rural Society of Argentina (Sociedad Rural Argentina), plan to demonstrate in locations across Argentina July 13 to denounce fuel and fertilizer shortages. Participants will also suspend their commercial activities for the day.

In the Entre Rios province, demonstrators will assemble at kilometer marker 83 on National Route 14 near the town of Gualeguaychu at 10:30 to form a caravan and travel to the intersection of Routes 14 and 16, where a rally will take place starting at 12:00. Organizers have as yet not released details concerning events in other provinces but demonstrators will likely gather along inter-provincial highways nationwide.

Although representatives of the participating organizations have stated that demonstrators will not block roadways or interfere with vehicular movement, increased security and associated traffic disruptions remain possible near any gatherings that may materialize. Clashes are unlikely, but cannot be discounted entirely.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Comply with all instructions from authorities. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Plan accordingly for localized traffic disruptions, particularly if traveling through city centers.
